SIMONE CAMETTI

OCHRE YELLOW

FROM MARCH 5TH 2022

MONTORO12 GALLERY, BRUXELLES

Montoro12 Gallery is pleased to present two solo exhibitions in collaboration with Francesca Antonini Gallery Rome: Simone Cametti (b. 1982 Rome) Ochre Yellow  and Emmanuele De Ruvo (b. 1983, Naples)  I Saw a Blue Sphere Falling. For both artists this is their first solo exhibition in Brussels.

Simone Cametti, Ochre Yellow

Ochre Yellow acts like an echo running through Simone Cametti’s works: it is apparently absent in the exhibition, but returns by shifting shape and turning into light. Ochre yellow is both a silent leitmotif and a reference to the absolutely contemporary as well as to very ancient origins. If on one hand it is one of the first pigments ever employed by our ancestors in cave paintings, on the other it is a reference to the artist's first performances. There, nature and light played a primary role, as they still do. In the context of this exhibition, yellow becomes a reflection, a mirror, an absence of darkness, a discovery. Sculpture and installation are a decisive part of his recent work, alongside other media such as photography, audio and video. Cametti starts from the observation of materials and their physical features: marble, iron, organic elements. Of each of them he investigates color, mechanical properties, shininess and shape, with the precise will to conceal the original material until it is completely transformed.
