Il segno gallery in Rome, founded by Angelica Savinio in 1964 and currently directed by her daughter Francesca Antonini, has reached this year an extraordinary goal, which is maybe unique on the Italian scene: it celebrates the fiftieth year of uninterrupted activity in the same venue. A journey that has given life to a long and prestigious history of experimentation.

An historical space that still keeps proposing the work of exceptional artists who investigate unexplored paths. The Roman venue witnessed the presence of some of the most important artistic and intellectual personalities on the national and international scene. From the exhibition of 1964 about American Pop Art, which inaugurated a long path, with Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Jones, Robert Rauchenberg up to some of the most important artists of the 20th century as Dorazio, Toti Scialoja, Gastone Novelli, Alberto Burri, Carlo Carrà, Lucio Fontana, Achille Perilli, Giuseppe Caporossi, Leoncillo, Marino Marini, Jean Debuffet, Hans Richter, Victor Vasarely, Alberto Giacometti, Osvaldo Licini, Renato Mambor, Alberto Savinio, Giorgio De Chirico, Le Corbusier, Enzo Cucchi, Fausto Melotti, Pablo Picasso.

For about twenty years, Francesca Antonini followed up her mother's work by focusing on younger contemporary artists, as Gregorio Botta, Alessandra Giovannoni, Antonello Viola, Paolo Picozza, Francesco Bocchini, Gianluigi Toccafondo, Alberto Zamboni, Marco Delogu , Femke Schaap, Gioacchino Pontrelli and the emergent Simone Cametti and Guglielmo Castelli.

On the occasion of the anniversary of Il segno, the walls that hosted stories and images in the past years will greet the names - almost 500, of all the artists whose work has been exhibited in the last fifty years.

The performance will be realized by the artists who collaborate today with the gallery; a video will be made and projected on October 29th.
